Geiger Counter — Personal Radiation Detector & Dosimeter

Radiation is everywhere. Cosmic rays, granite countertops, smoke detectors, airplane altitude, medical imaging, natural radon. This device makes it audible, visible, and measurable.

A Geiger-Müller tube detects ionizing radiation — alpha, beta, and gamma — by the brief conductive pulse each particle creates as it ionizes gas in the tube. Each detection produces the iconic click. This unit counts, displays dose rate in µSv/h, logs cumulative dose, and sounds an alarm above a configurable threshold. Use it to explore background radiation, measure the elevation effect on cosmic ray flux, or test the shielding ability of different materials.

What you can measure:

• Background radiation (cosmic rays + terrestrial sources, ~0.1–0.3 µSv/h at sea level)
• Elevation effect — radiation increases ~15% per 1500m of altitude
• Shielding — compare paper, aluminium, lead, and concrete
• Naturally radioactive minerals (granite, potassium salt, uranium glass)
• Dose accumulation over time
