Green Laser Pointer — 532nm, Class IIIa, 5mW

At 532nm, the human eye is near peak sensitivity — a 5mW green laser appears 50× brighter than a red laser of identical power.

532nm is produced by frequency-doubling a 1064nm Nd:YAG infrared laser through a KTP nonlinear crystal. The physics is elegant: two 1064nm photons combine to produce one 532nm photon via second-harmonic generation. Used in laser optics demonstrations, alignment, astronomy (star-pointing), and Raman spectroscopy. Class IIIa: safe with precautions, visible beam in dust or fog.
