Giant Soap Bubble Kit — Surface Tension Physics Lab
Make bubbles the size of a person. The physics of minimum surface area made visible at human scale.
A soap bubble is a physical solution to a calculus problem: what shape encloses a given volume with minimum surface area? The answer is a sphere — and soap films find this solution automatically through surface tension. The iridescent colours are thin-film interference: light reflecting from the inner and outer soap surfaces, with path-length differences that cause constructive or destructive interference at specific wavelengths. The colours you see encode the thickness of the film — nanometre-scale measurements visible to the naked eye.
This kit's formula (glycerol + surfactant ratio) allows bubbles that last for minutes and grow large enough to step inside.
Includes: Giant bubble wand (1m cord) · Concentrated formula (makes 5L) · Small geometric bubble frame set · Guide with thin-film optics explanation
